Young Farmers Yarn (Chunky)

Commercial blend yarn from 2 young farmers near Crossgates, Scotland. The yarn is a mix of Suffolk, Texel and Shetland. The market for commercial yarn in the UK is under-explored and farmers routinely burn the fleeces as it is quicker and cheaper than sending them to wool cooperatives. We buy the fleeces from 2 farms and turn it into yarn, for every kilo we buy, we pay enough to not only cover costs but also make a profit. Yarn has a value and we want to prove that.

This yarn will surprise you by its softness and can be worn against the skin very easily. It also has great stitch definition and works well for cabling or colour-work.

A range of colours are available, inspired by the colours of Scotland that are around us every day. We create each individual colour in our own home and only use British made dyes to reduce our carbon footprint.

Description

Introducing our latest addition to our handcrafted yarn collection, made with love and care by a team of passionate farmers! Our pure wool yarn is a blend of Suffolk, Texel, and Shetland fleeces, sourced from our smallholder partners and our neighbours.

We take pride in our commitment to ethical and sustainable practices, and that includes supporting our local farming community. We purchase the Suffolk and Texel fleeces from our neighbours, who are commercial young commercial. Typically, the wool from these breeds has little to no value in the commercial market, and is often discarded as waste. We buy it for a fair price, ensuring our neighbours make a profit from every kilo we buy. This not only helps to reduce waste but also supports our local economy and community.

Our Shetland fleeces come from the same smallholders that we work with for our pure Shetland yarn. We believe in fostering long-term relationships with our partners, and that includes treating them with respect and fairness.

Our pure wool yarn is available in aran and chunky weights, making it perfect for a wide range of projects. It is also available in both natural and hand-dyed colours. Our natural yarn is a bright white, perfect for showcasing the natural beauty and texture of the wool.

We hand-dye our yarn at home, using British-made dyes and traditional techniques to achieve a range of beautiful, unique colours. Our colourways range from soft pastels to bold, vivid hues, each name paying homage to the stunning natural beauty of Scotland.

Our yarn has a soft, woolly texture, with a slight halo that adds warmth and character to your projects. It is versatile and easy to work with, making it ideal for a wide range of knitting and crochet projects.

In summary, our pure wool yarn is a premium product that is both sustainable and ethical. By purchasing our yarn, you are not only supporting local farmers, but also making a positive impact on the environment. So why not add a touch of Scottish charm to your next project with our beautiful, handcrafted yarn?
